madewell overalls

I was shamelessly indulging in Bravo last night—a little Pump Rules, a little Real Housewives—and while the ridiculous dialogue and drama usually consume my attention (Scheana is SUCH a bridezilla), I couldn't help but notice the casually chic overalls Eileen Davidson wore during an at-home table read. Overalls have been trendy for a while, but Harper's reports that, entering spring, the fashion elite are "not over it." I still haven't bought a pair—and still want to. Madewell's version is simple and cleanly tailored with slim legs. (Check check check.) And in black, it's a bit more elevated and modern than the Gap ones that permeated my dresser drawers back in the day (worn one strap undone, of course). With a tank and easy sneakers or d'Orsays, the updated childhood favorite is the definition of stylish weekend comfort.

his style 7

Since I dedicated yesterday's post to J.Crew womenswear, it felt only fair to give the guys some love today. While I haven't taken a spring break since 2012 (Barcelona!), years of family vacations will always trigger an internal desire to pack up and fly south mid-March. With that just weeks away (and the bitter cold steamrolling us to insanity) it's high time to start scooping up shorter sleeves and breezier fabrics in anticipation of warmer weather—even if that's just a few days in Florida for now. While a few super summery pieces, like tanks and trunks, are necessary for south-of-the-border escapes, don't overdo it on that stuff too soon—most of the country is, after all, still covered in snow (and -11º when I woke up this morning!). A lighter long-sleeve sweater, freshly striped Oxford, fun floral shorts and bright Birks are great investments for early spring. This pieced nylon A-2 bomber is oozing cool, and I love the sporty appeal of a classic cap, Chino joggers and high-top sneaks! Reserve a spot for these in your suitcase now.

runway review

J.Crew presented its fall line yesterday at New York Fashion Week, and while I thought I wasn't as infatuated with the brand as I once was, the downright delicious pieces reminded me that my lukewarm attitude is just a byproduct of not being able to afford everything (because I want everything) in the collection. I love the easy ankle pants, fresh color combinations and—of course—oversize scarves. It's all infused with a 1970s spirit that feels characteristically stylish, effortless and right on. I can't wait to drape myself in all the cable knit, fringed and sequined glory—especially these six looks, which I can see most seamlessly fitting into my current wardrobe (wink). The casually tucked lemon turtleneck and belted blush skirt with pop-y floral pumps is refined perfection, I'm pleasantly surprised by the pairing of a longer, looser purple blazer with green patchwork pants, and I'd happily wear neon peach heels, jeans and a furry hooded jacket every.single.day. See everything up close and personal right here.

stellasport

While most people have MORE motivation for the gym in January, the first month of the year was decidedly underachieving for my fitness. I blame the flu and an inability to break my holiday sleeping-in streak. I'm slowly ramping back up to my regular schedule, and StellaSport is just the help I need to get over the hump. Targeting a younger shopper than Adidas by Stella McCartney, the athleisure line by Sir Paul's designer daughter blends performance tech (need) with fashion appeal (want) in a high-energy but very wearable way. The line's leggings are my favorites; I wear running tights regardless of workout and don't have NEARLY enough. And after spotting several girls in flashy neon and tie-dye at the ski hill last weekend, can't stop thinking about adding some spice to my basic black separates. Of course, the best thing about StellaSport is you can (and should) wear it even when plowing through pancakes and avocado toast at your weekly brunch spot is the only cardio you're considering. anthropologie pants

I can't stop thinking about the jumpsuits Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn sported at a celebration of Stella McCartney's Resort 2015 collection. McCartney is quoted on style.com discussing the designs, "Isn't it nice to get some color back into your life, and print, just to feel alive?" In the middle of dreary February, the answer, Ms. McCartney, is YES. This snap from the bubbles and balloons-filled fete inspired me to snuff out similarly lighthearted patterns and billowy silhouettes at more pedestrian price points. Not surprisingly, Anthropologie has a rich assortment of colorful trousers, culottes and crops that convey that same garden party personality. Normally religious about skinny jeans, the effortlessness of drapey wide-leg styles really makes me re-think my spring pants strategy. fendi ski stirrup leggings

February! YAY. I have some fun weekends planned this month, starting with a quick Saturday ski trip. If you've never snapped yourself into a set of Rossignols, get going! Like tennis or golf, skiing is a life skill that's as much social as sport—and something I hope to do much more of in the years ahead. I first pizza-ed down the bunny hill at age four and spent several winters as a ski club kid, but haven't tested my skills in YEARS. Here's hoping I can still bomb the iciest black diamonds, careen through winding woods trails at unsafe speeds and strike mid-air splits over a maze of moguls (ha!). I'll be wearing a mismatched assortment of my sister's old ski team gear, but in an ideal world, wouldn't Fendi stirrups be the way to go? Some bulk is unavoidable when you spend a day in the snow (the boots alone are behemoths), but these sleek fleece-lined leggings that look as good in the lodge as on the lifts just say supermodel.
